The Division of Insurance is authorized to serve Service of Process pursuant to AS 21.09.180 - 21.09.190 on authorized insurance companies; AS 21.27.270 on non-resident producers, adjusters, etc.; AS 21.33.021 on unauthorized persons/insurers; and AS 08.18.081 on surety bonds.

Service of process is made by sending two copies of all court documents and any attachments to the Director of Insurance at the division office in Juneau for each insurance company or licensee to be served. A specific insurance company or licensee name must be listed on the court documents. For example, listing Safeco Insurance Company as the insurance company on the Summons and Complaint is not sufficient, as there are currently three companies authorized to do business in the state of Alaska with Safeco Insurance Company as a part of their name. Additionally, one check for $25 made payable to the Director of Insurance for each insurance company or licensee should be attached to the documents. The documents and filing fee should be sent via certified mail, return receipt requested.

If you have questions, please call (907) 465-2515.
