Located east of the Seward Highway on O'Malley Road, this golf course has 18 holes of up and down terrain. There are several holes with blind shots to the green.

This course has a magnificent view of the city and Turnagain Arm from the club house, and from several tee boxes on the course. Wheelchair/Handicap Accessible.

Russian Jack Springs Park and Golf Course features nine holes - 1934 yards - Par 31, artificial-surface greens, serene, wooded fairways, beautiful scenery of the Chugach and Alaska ranges, the surrounding greenery and the city skyline. There is a comfortable chalet and surrounding attractions such as the Municipal greenhouse, the natural springs, bike trails, and picnic areas. Call for tee times.

The following two courses in the Anchorage area are military, but allow civilians to play 7 days a week.

Eagleglen Golf Course

Located on Elmendorf Air Force Base, northeast of the city, the course is aptly named as there are several eagles that frequently put on aerial demonstrations. The course is 18 holes and fairly wide open with trees lining both sides of each fairway. The back 9 holes cross Ship Creek on the 14th, 15th, 17th and twice on the 18th hole.

Moose Run Golf Course

This course is on Ft. Richardson Army Base, located northeast of the city of Anchorage on the Glenn Highway.

On a regular basis during the summer, a black bear and usually one or two cubs will be checking out the big dumpster at the far end of the parking lot -- so, be cautious (you leave them alone and they will leave you alone). While playing the course, it is not uncommon to see moose roaming around the fairways; proceed with caution, especially if they have a calf following close by.

This is a very scenic course, especially from the 15th tee box. The front 9 is hilly and a real challenge. The back 9 is quite different as it is flat with each hole lined by trees (the fairways are very wide, so you can really let loose with your driver).

The "World's Northernmost Golf Course" is a 9-hole, par 36 course that was newly reconstructed in 1994. Spruce and birch trees line several narrow fairways, and the grass greens are soft and true. There are two new ponds, sand traps, and water hazards.

Located in Gustavus near the entrance to Glacier Bay, the 9 hole, par 36 Mt. Fairweather golf course borders Icy Strait and has views of snow-capped mountains on all sides. A driving range is available at the clubhouse where caddies and carts are available. The greens are challenging and wildlife sightings, (including bear, moose, fox, and birds), are frequent. In fact, golfers are allowed to take relief from moose tracks!

A 9 hole, par 28 course, the Weeping Trout golf course winds through old growth spruce and hemlock forest near the Chilkat Lake outside of Haines, Alaska. Sand-filled, artificial turf makes up the greens which range from 41 yards to 163 yards. Professional equipment is available, but only a putter, 5 iron, and 9 iron are required if guests bring their own clubs.

KENAI

On the Kenai Spur Road travel about 8 miles and look for Lawton Drive. The Kenai Golf Course is just before you get to the southeast corner of the school grounds.

This is an 18-hole layout, with a pro shop, driving range, cafe, putting green, and an occasional moose, caribou, coyote, or eagle for added interest! This is a beautifully laid-out golf course with water in play on 8 fairways. Good "golf course management" is definitely a requirement. Golfers will probably use every club in their bag!

KNIK

Turn left on to Knik Road in Wasilla. Travel about eight or nine miles through wooded countryside and you will see signs on the left giving directions to Settler's Bay.

A 9-hole course with all of the amenities -- pro shop, restaurant, putting green, and a very unique driving range. The driving area is approximately 50-to-75 feet higher than the landing area. The course has two par-3 holes, two par-5 holes, and five par-4 holes. In this secluded setting, it is not uncommon to see moose wandering through the trees. This course is real challenging, and a very good test of your golfing skills.

The first thing you will see as you look past the parking lot is the club house. "It is probably the most beautiful club house in the state of Alaska." There is ample parking and if you are driving a large RV, there is a road extension good for parking.

KODIAK

You must fly to Kodiak Island to play this course. Upon leaving the city of Kodiak, travel north approximately three miles on the Buskin River Road.

Bear Valley Golf Course

On the U.S. Coast Guard Base, this is a 9-hole course that is par 36 with yardage of 2,862. It has not been rated as of this publication. The course layout is flat with no real difficulty. If you travel to Kodiak Island, it is a good place to spend the day.

NIKISKI

Near Nikiski on the Kenai Peninsula, the 9 hole Cottonwood Country Club operates an 80 acre course with hilly fairways, giant cottonwood trees, and a view of the mountains, (including Mt. McKinley on a very clear day). Located on mile 32 of the Kenai Spur Highway, turn at Kishka Road to find the course. Rental clubs and carts are available.

PALMER

Turn right just beyond the Palmer State Fair-grounds; on the right-hand corner is a large, white Petrolane tank. There is also a blue sign that directs you to the golf course. Turn onto Outer Springer Loop Road.

Palmer Golf Course

This is a municipal course with a layout that has the Palmer Airport on the west side and the Matanuska River on the east.

The scenery all around is magnificent and, on occasion, you will see fox playing on the fairways, and probably in the early morning, a moose or two.

There is a good selection of holes, the par fives are long but reachable by the long-ball strikers. This course is commonly classified as a links course. The club house has a snack bar, pro shop, and driving range.

SOLDOTNA

Southbound on the Seward Highway, turn right at the "Y" onto the Sterling Highway. Go approximately 35 miles and turn left.

Birch Ridge Golf Course

Located two miles out of Soldotna, this is a 9-hole, well-laid-out, rustic golf course with fairways lined by trees. The course has a par of 35.

This course has some of the best mountain views on the Peninsula. In addition, moose and other "critters" are frequent visitors and should be afforded the right-of-way. Located outside of Wrangell in Southeast Alaska, the 9 hole Muskeg Meadows golf course winds through spruce and hemlock forest with views of the ocean and snow-capped mountains. This course plays under the unique Raven Rule which states that if a raven steals a ball it may be replaced with no penalty if the act was witnessed by another player. The clubhouse/pro shop has a driving range, gear and carts are available, and tournaments take place all summer.
