Specialty Salmon Marketing Mini-Grants

Specialty Salmon Marketing Mini-GrantsThis grant program provides Alaska salmon processors and direct marketing fishers a financial boost in the marketing of their market-accepted, value-added salmon products. Grants are available in amounts from $10,000 to $100,000. Grant funds may be used for advertising, test product giveaways, marketing manager travel, label design, and all tasks related to product marketing. Administrative services are not allowed. A joint University of Alaska/State of Alaska project team will approve and monitor the grants throughout the grant period. Funds will be disbursed on an invoice basis to each grantee. Quarterly reports will be required. Grant funds are to be spent and projects completed within 18 months of the award.

Applicants will be evaluated competitively based on the following criteria

  • Overall quality, creativity, and effectiveness of the marketing proposal.
  • Demonstration of current market acceptance of the value-added product.
  • Uniqueness of the value-added salmon product.
  • Extent to which the product matches or fits within current consumer food trends, such as, home meal replacement.
  • Applicant's commitment of time, money, and personnel to the marketing of the product.
  • Demonstration of need for the marketing grant.
  • Time and effort placed on product research and development.
  • Explanation of how grant will help sustain the effectiveness of current marketing activities.
  • Extent to which the targeted market and product form helps diversify existing markets for Alaska salmon.
  • Extent to which proposals help to raise the tide for salmon fishermen.
