- GMU examinations are given in Anchorage, Fairbanks and
Juneau.
- Registered Guide-Outfitter qualification examination is
held in the same location as a Board meeting.

Registered Guide-Outfitter must receive eight favorable
recommendations including at least two for each of any three years
postmarked by
August 1, 2013 in order to be considered for scheduling of the
December 3-5, 2013 examination.
APPLICATION DEADLINE
Application, fees, and all supporting documents must be
postmarked by the deadline date noted above.
EXAMINATION STUDY MATERIAL
REGISTERED GUIDE-OUTFITTER QUALIFICATION
EXAMINATION
The Registered Guide-Outfitter Qualification examination will
consist of a written examination and a practical examination testing
the applicant’s knowledge on:
- Big Game Commercial Services Board statutes and
regulations (AS 08.54 and 12 AQAC 75);
- Alaska Department of Fish and Game hunting statutes and
regulations;
- Trophy judging of actual horns and antlers using the Boone
and Crockett or Safari Club International scoring system;
- Aging of animals. This portion is an oral
examination. Applicants will be expected to answer life cycle
questions, such as birth, weight and height at various ages, sexual
maturity, average, etc.;
- Sexing of Mountain Goats and bears. This portion is
an oral examination. Applicants will be expected to answer
questions related to this topic; and
- Caping a big game animal. Application must provide a
visual recording of the applicant caping a big game animal. No

GAME MANAGEMENT UNIT CERTIFICATION EXAMINATION
The Game Management Unit Certification examination is a
written examination testing the applicant’s knowledge on
terrain, game, geography, transportation, logistics, and land
ownership.
