RE: Continuing Education Advisory Committee Recruitment

Alaska Statute 21.27.020(g) provides for the establishment of a continuing education advisory committee of five members appointed by the director. The committee consists of one life and health insurance representative, one limited lines insurance representative, one property and casualty insurance representative, one independent insurance adjuster representative, and one member from the division. Each member from the insurance industry must hold a valid, current license for the field to be represented. Recruitment for the industry representatives in all fields is now open.

There are vacancies in the property and casualty and the limited lines seats. Each appointment is for a three-year period, subject to the pleasure of the director, and the terms are staggered with the other committee member appointments.

The committee members provide recommendations on continuing education compliance matters and advise the director on continuing education matters. We anticipate that industry committee members will spend approximately 10 hours per quarter assisting the director in auditing continuing education compliance. Membership is strictly voluntary and no compensation is provided.

Any active licensee interested in serving as a continuing education advisory committee member is requested to submit a resume to the director at the address above or by e-mail to bob.lohr@alaska.gov. Although applications are always accepted, applications for consideration for the present vacancies should be sent no later than September 15, 2000.

With your help, our continuing education program will continue to be successful. I appreciate your commitment to your profession and your willingness to help ensure that our continuing education program is a lean and effective program.

Dated this 14th day of August, 2000.

Robert A. Lohr
Director of Insurance
