TO: ALL LICENSEES AND ADMITTED INSURERS WRITING PERSONAL OR COMMERCIAL AUTO INSURANCE IN THE STATE OF ALASKA AND OTHER INTERESTED PARTIES

RE: ALASKA AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE PLAN – CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT AND INTRODUCTION OF THE ALASKA SERVICE CENTER

In order to continue writing private passenger and commercial business with the Alaska Automobile Insurance Plan (AAIP), producers must obtain a certification number by registering with the AAIP by July 1, 2002. Notification of this new requirement has appeared in recent AIPSO circulars and AIPSO will send an additional notice before the deadline.

Beginning July 1, 2002, the assigned risk Alaska Automobile Insurance Plan (AAIP) will centralize policy services, risk assignment, and commission payment for private passenger non-fleet risks in a new service center facility. The Alaska Service Center will process new business applications, endorsements, and cancellations for private passenger non-fleet risks. Producers will need to contact only the assigned company when reporting claims. A policy with an effective date before July 1, 2002 will continue to be serviced by the assigned company until its next renewal date, at which time the policy will be non-renewed and then could be rewritten through the Alaska Service Center.

After obtaining a certification number, producers submitting private passenger non-fleet risks will have access to the Electronic Effective Date Procedure (EEDP). Coverage may be bound by calling a toll free telephone number and then submitting the application according to the procedures outlined in the EEDP manual. This EEDP feature is accessible only to those who have registered with AAIP through AIPSO.

Both private passenger and commercial risks are impacted by revisions to AAIP regarding payment options, cancellation and reinstatement, and SR-22 filings. AIPSO has added performance standards for the Alaska Service Center and has revised the performance standards for producers and servicing carriers.

Requests for additional information or questions regarding these changes may be directed to Richard Manning, Manager, Alaska Automobile Insurance Plan at (415) 765-6777 or by email to Richard.Manning@aipso.com
