BULLETIN B99-02

TO: All Insurance Companies and Insurance Producers Writing Health Insurance in Alaska and Other Interested Parties

RE: Coordination of Benefits

This bulletin is issued for the purpose of rescinding the following bulletins:

B80-8 dated December 1, 1980 — Coordination of Benefits

B85-3 dated May 16, 1985 — Coordination of Health Insurance Benefits

Alaska Statute 21.42.205, which became effective July 1, 1997, requires an insurer doing business in this state to include a coordination of benefits provision in a major medical policy or contract. The director will soon propose regulations, including a regulation that adopts the "birth date" rule, to implement and interpret this statute.

DATED: January 20, 1999.
