Where can I get information on Alaska Seafood?

Nearly half the U.S. commercial seafood harvest is from the icy waters off Alaska. The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) offers free resources to consumers, retailers, restaurateurs, foodservice distributors, Alaska seafood harvesters and processors. ASMI promotes Alaska Seafood in the U.S. and seventeen other countries. For more information, including a gigantic collection of seafood recipes, visit the ASMI website http://www.alaskaseafood.org.

Where can I get information relating to the loan programs administered by the Division of Investments?

You can contact the Division by e-mail at Investments@alaska.gov or by telephone toll free within Alaska at 1-800-478-LOAN or at (907) 465-2510.

How can I get a list of business license holders?

You may search the business license database (link to: www.commerce.state.ak.us/occ/search1.htm) or the occupational license database (link to www.commerce.state.ak.us/occ/search3.htm)  for a specific license holder. The internet search will display the first 500 licenses satisfying the search criteria. You may purchase the complete databases on paper or CD ROM from the Division of Occupational Licensing. 

Do I need a license to do business in Alaska?

Most businesses need a business license from the Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing . Please see the Directory of Licensed Occupations in Alaska to learn which occupational licenses may be required. Local governments may also require municipal business licenses or occupational licenses.

Does the Division of Banking and Securities assist with complaints concerning financial institutions?

We do follow up on all written complaints involving state banks and any other entity we supervise.

What about complaints against national banks or federal credit unions?

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency has a toll free complaint line, 800-613-6743. Federal credit unions are regulated by the National Credit Union Administration who can be reached at 510-825-6125.

Can I download forms from your website?

Can I get information on corporations from the internet, such as registered agent and officer information?

When is the best time to visit Alaska?

The best time to visit Alaska would depend on what you want to see. The Northern Lights can only be viewed during late fall and early spring months and the Midnight Sun can only be seen during the summer especially June 21st.

How far is Anchorage from Denali, Fairbanks from Denali?

Anchorage is 237 miles from Denali and Denali is 121 miles from Fairbanks, this is the distance on the George Parks Highway.

When is the best whale watching?

Whale watching is the best during the middle of May through the middle of September.

When are the insects the worst?

Insects are worse during the summer months, most peak in June and are here until the first freeze.

Where can I view the most wildlife?

This depends on the type of wildlife you would like to view. Moose, bear, mountain sheep, and caribou are among the most frequently seen mammals, along with the occasional coyote or wolf, Dall sheep, beaver, otter, mink, or hare. Birdwatchers will delight in the eagles and many kinds of hawks, jays, owls, spruce hens, grouse, and ptarmigan, as well as the migratory waterfowl that come north to nest each summer.
