Population

In recent years, Alaska Native people have migrated from rural to urban Alaska. Based on comparisons of the 2000 and 2010 U.S. Census data, Alaska Native population increased a total of 13.72 percent. Anchorage, Fairbanks and Juneau combined have  increased in total population by 46.46 percent among those who identified themselves as Native; while the rural areas have lost 16.43 percent. With this growth and change, traditional knowledge and ways of knowing are being lost.
