Janey Hovenden was appointed director of the Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing in March, 2015. She has worked in local government since the mid-1980s, serving most recently as the City Clerk for the City of Fairbanks from October, 2006 through February, 2015. There she directed the City Clerk’s Office, working closely with elected officials; administered a variety of boards and commissions; and managed the regulation and issuance of all occupational and business licensing for the City of Fairbanks. She was active in reviewing and drafting local laws governing occupational and business licensing to streamline processes and ensure compliance.
Director Hovenden was very involved in the Alaska Association of Municipal Clerks (AAMC) organization volunteering her time to serve on six boards and committees. She was named Clerk of the Year at the 2012 AAMC Conference and was sworn in as AAMC President in November of 2013. Janey received her Master Municipal Clerk (MMC) certification from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) in January, 2014. She has been a professional mentor to her staff and peers and she continues to seek learning opportunities and challenges in the workplace.
