Fisheries Industrial Technology Center The Kodiak
Fisheries Industrial Technology Center is a research and development
facility dedicated to improving the harvesting, processing, preserving,
and packaging of Alaskas seafood. In addition to developing new value-added
products, (including puffed salmon products, jarred smoked salmon, comitrol
flaked salmon, and ready-to-eat single serving salmon entrees), the center
researches techniques to increase the efficiency of seafood operations and
the value of Alaska seafood. Research includes the following projects:
- Reduction of by-catch and more complete
utilization of fish
- More efficient processing methods
- Enhancement of the quality and texture
of seafood products
- Reduction of exposure to microbes
- Increase in seafood shelf life
The center is also committed to conveying
the results of their studies to the public and to providing educational
opportunities. |
