Alaska Regional Development Organizations - ARDORs
About the ARDORs
In 1988, the Alaska Legislature established the Alaska Regional Economic Assistance Program, known as the ARDOR program. This ARDOR program is supported by the belief that a locally driven initiative, in partnership with the state and other entities, could most effectively stimulate economic development and produce a healthier more sustainable local economy. The Legislature has reauthorized the program several times since 1988, most recently in 2008.
The ARDORs are intended to:
- enable communities to pool their limited resources, and work together on economic development issues;
- develop partnerships among public, private and other organizations,
- offer a technical, nonpartisan capacity to develop and implement an economic development strategy,
- often have extensive experience with federal/State programs, and
- provide needed technical assistance via direct links with local citizens.
