Community Sanitation Overview:

Approximately 65 percent of residents haul water from the washeteria and use outhouses. Individual wells and wastewater systems are also used. Construction of a new water source, water treatment plant, washeteria and lagoon was completed in 2006; the new washeteria opened to the public in mid-February 2006. A wastewater tank pump truck was purchased and delivered to Ruby in summer 2006. Construction of a garage for the pump truck was completed last year. The school operates its own well. Electricity is provided by the City of Ruby, through the Ruby Electric Utility.

RUBA Status
and Activities
this Quarter:

Ruby does not have a water/wastewater project and is a non-reportable community. Routine contact was maintained this quarter between the city clerk and Fairbanks staff via phone and email. No utility related problems or concerns were reported or noticed.Completion of the garage for the pumper truck last year has helped reduced problems associated with starting up the truck in cold weather. Construction of a new clinic building is almost complete and the clerk reported that it should be ready for occupancy next quarter: it will use waste heat and solar energy to reduce heating costs. The city office moved into the old clinic building this past spring. The clerk reported that the new power plant is using much less fuel than the old power plant. These changes and improvements are reducing the city's overall expenditures and should have an impact on the city's ability to promote long-term sustainability of its electric and water utilities.
