The purpose of the Research & Analysis Section (R&A) is to provide research, analysis, and general technical support for the Department's operations.

Major Activities
Community Database/Community Profiles This database provides a wide range of community-based information and data for planning, policy making, and technical assistance decisions. Users of this information include other state and federal agencies, private nonprofit organizations, legislators and their staff, and the general public, both in Alaska and around the world. The database provides for comprehensive community profiles and customized queries of specific community data. Information is available in hard copy, and through an interactive database on the worldwide web (http://www.commerce.state.ak.us/dca/commdb/CF_COMDB.htm). The web site includes a feature that allows users to automatically email themselves the data they need.
Economic Development Resource Guide (EDRG) This guide is designed to bring together in one place a listing of programs and services that provide economic development assistance to Alaska individuals, communities, organizations and businesses. The EDRG includes over 130 resources that provide financial and technical assistance targeted at economic development. These resources include federal and state agencies, national and state nonprofit organizations, and private for-profit organizations. The EDRG is also on the web with a user-friendly interface that provides users with targeted searches to retrieve those resources that apply to their specific eligibility and needs (http://www.commerce.state.ak.us/dca/edrg/EDRG.htm)
Community Capital Project Database This database provides an inventory of ongoing and planned capital projects undertaken by all state and federal agencies. It was developed to support the RAPIDS program (Rural Alaska Project Identification and Delivery System) and is designed to enhance the coordination of multiple projects at the community level.
