Many communities in Alaska either
do not have a community profile map or the map that exists is outdated.
To obtain map information, communities and agencies have to track down
and rely on a hodgepodge of maps from different offices, or spend project
resources to create another one time specific map.
IAID brings together state, federal, and local resources to produce
standardized computer based community profile maps that can be shared,
and are suitable for a wide variety of uses.
Commerce will work with any region that can
demonstrate community interest in having a community profile mapping
project, and the ability to provide the required 1:1 match. A region
is generally 5-10 communities. Eligible communities are those with a
population under 1,500 that are not located in a borough with mapping
capability.
