General Services Administration (GSA)

Administrative Agency:

Federal Agency: U.S. General Services Administration (GSA)

Program Goals:

GSA's Office of Small Business Utilization (OSBU) advocates for small, minority, veteran, HUBZone, woman-owned, and service-disabled veteran-owned businesses. Its mission is to promote increased access to GSA's nationwide procurement opportunities. GSA's small business programs nurture entrepreneurial opportunities, open doors to new business horizons, and enhance technological capabilities.

Resource Provided:

Advisory services and counseling.

Eligibility:

Applicants may be any business concern.

Alaska Program Status:

The nearest Business Service office is located in Auburn, Washington and works with Alaskan companies on a regular basis. GSA also partners very closely with Alaska PTAC (see Doing Business with the Government (PTAC) in this guide) on assisting those businesses. Companies in the construction field may be interested to know that GSA has a Customer Service Center in Anchorage who manages the owned and leased GSA Federal buildings in Alaska.

Comments:

The federal government does a great deal of business in Alaska. Local and regional economic development plans should consider the potentials of this market.
