Program Goals:
To support all Denali Commission investments through employment and training. The Training Program provides training funds to residents to build the skills necessary to become employed in the construction of any Denali Commission project and the administration skills necessary to maintain and operate once projects are complete.
Resource Provided:
Training funds. There were eight awards in 2008:
-Alaska Construction Foundation: For high school construction career pathways.
-Alaska Construction Foundation: For the development of rural construction academies in Nome, Bethel, King Salmon, Dillingham, and Kodiak.
-University of Alaska: For allied health training programs.
-First Alaskans: For youth leadership activities.
-Alaska Works: For training in construction trades.
-Department of Labor and Workforce Development: Funding allocated to support the Denali Training Fund, a public competitive fund that selects training projects that support rural training for the construction, operation, and maintenance of Denali Commission investments and other public infrastructure projects.
-Department of Labor and Workforce Development: Funding allocated to support Youth Initiatives, a public competitive fund that selects training projects that give youth in rural Alaska an advantage for higher education and employment opportunities.
-Department of Labor and Workforce Development: For the administration of the Denali Training Fund and Youth Initiatives.
Eligibility:
Non-profit or for-profit organizations, educators, industry trainers, employers, community service agencies, or governmental units who have the capacity to facilitate training.
