Program Goals:
The Denali Commission Energy Program provides code-compliant bulk fuel storage facilities, power system generation upgrades, and alternative and renewable energy sources throughout rural Aalska.
Resource Provided:
Funding is received through three sources: Energy and Water Appropriations, USDA Rural Utilities Service, and Trans-Alaska Pipeline Liability Trust. However, there is no guarantee of continued program funding, as it is subject to congressional appropriations.
Eligibility:
Communities are selected for bulk fuel and rural power system upgrades based on an established needs list. Alternative and renewable energy projects are selected through a competitive Request for Proposals process.
Alaska Program Status:
The Denali Commission has completed 93 bulk fuel facility upgrades and 46 power plant upgrades. There are 20 bulk fuel facilities in progress, ranging from conceptual planning to construction, and 29 power plant projects currently ongoing.
