Alternative Energy and Energy Efficiency
Administrative Agency:
Public Corporation of the State: Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development (DCCED), Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA), Alaska Energy Authority (AEA)
Program Goals:
The purpose of the Alaska Energy Authority's Alternative Energy and Energy Efficiency (AEEE) program is to develop projects that reduce the cost of energy throughout Alaska and use locally available energy resources.
The primary objective of the program is to lower the cost of power and heat to communities while maintaining system safety and reliability. Projects seek to increase efficiency of existing diesel power production and end-use and to develop alternatives to diesel-based energy technology.
Resource Provided:
Evaluate and develop rural energy alternatives, including hydro, village interties, conservation, and energy supplies based on wood, municipal solid waste, wind, geothermal, and coal.
Alaska Program Status:
AEA's Alternative Energy and Energy Efficiency program currently manages over 100 projects in the areas of hydroelectric, wind, biomass, transmission and distribution, geothermal, solar, diesel generation, and end-use efficiency. The AEEE section is responsible for technical review of applications received and oversight of projects funded under the Alaska Renewable Energy Fund.
