Alaska Trails Program
Administrative Agency:
State Agency: Department of Natural Resources; Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation
Program Goals:
Development and reconstruction of specific trails and related facilities.
Resource Provided:
Grants are available for development and reconstruction of trails and related facilities. A match is required for these grants.
Eligibility:
During the Federal Fiscal Year 2009, the Alaska Department of Natural Resources was allotted an additional $1.9 million to supplement the Alaska Trails Initiative program. Due to congressional language and programmatic deadlines, these grant funds are being offered to supplement previously awarded Alaska Trails Initiative projects (FFY 2006 and 2007). Grant funds will also be awarded to projects that were not initially selected due to funding limitations. Grantees and applicants have been offered an opportunity to submit requests for additional funds from the 2009 cycle to complete existing or previously proposed projects. The deadline for requests was August 12, 2009. Preliminary selections for projects are currently being made and will likely be announced in October of 2009. Information about anticipated appropriations will be available at http://www.alaskastatetrails.org.
