Sunrise is located 7 miles southeast of Hope, at the mouth of Sixmile Creek, on the south shore of the Turnagain Arm of Cook Inlet. The community lies on the Hope Highway, northwest of the Seward Highway in the Kenai Peninsula Borough. The community
lies at approximately 60.889720° North Latitude
and -149.421110° West Longitude.

| "Sunrise City" was a mining town, founded around 1895. A post office was established here in 1899, but was discontinued in 1918.
The population of the community consists of 11.1%

| All houses lack complete plumbing. The Borough provides a refuse transfer site in Hope.

Auxiliary health care is provided by Hope/Sunrise EMS (782-3174/3630); Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna or Anchorage hospitals.

Some mining still occurs in the area; a few residents are retired.
Sunrise is accessible by a road from the Seward highway. A gravel airstrip is available nearby, at Hope. Both Anchorage and Kenai are accessible by road, and offer a variety of transportation services. |
