Salamatof is on the Kenai Peninsula, on the east shore of Cook Inlet at the mouth of Salamatof Creek, 5.5 miles northwest of the City of Kenai. The community
lies at approximately 60.618890° North Latitude
and -151.342500° West Longitude.

and Demographics |
| Salamatof was first reported in 1911 by the U.S. Geological Survey as a Dena'ina Indian village.
A federally-recognized tribe is located in the community -- the Village of Salamatof.
The population of the community consists of 22.3%
Alaska Native or part Native.
A portion of the Salamatof population are Athabascan, although the surrounding area on the Kenai Peninsula is largely non-Native.
During the 2000 U.S. Census,
total housing units numbered 282, and vacant housing units numbered 62.
Vacant housing units used
only seasonally numbered 27.
U.S. Census data for Year
2000 showed 228 residents
as employed. The unemployment rate at that time was
15.24 percent,
although
71.28 percent of
all adults were not in the work force. The median household
income was $44,861, per capita income was $16,306, and
11.85 percent of residents
were living below the poverty level.

Utilities, Schools and Health Care |
| The majority of homes use individual water wells and septic tanks, and the remainder are connected to Kenai's piped water and sewer system. Almost all households are fully plumbed. A Borough refuse transfer site is availabe in Kenai.
Electricity is provided by Homer Electric Association.
There are no state operated schools located in the community.
Local hospitals or health clinics include Central Peninsula General Hospital in Soldotna (262-4404).
Salamatof is classified as a highway village, it is found in EMS Region 2J in the Kenai Peninsula Region. Emergency Services have highway, coastal and air access

and Transportation |
Salamatof is attempting to develop a lake resort area. The economy of the Kenai area is diverse: oil and gas processing, timber, commercial and sport fishing, government, retail businesses and tourism-related services provide employment.
The Sterling Highway provides access to Anchorage and beyond. Float planes can land at Arness Lake and Lower Salamatof. Kenai offers an airport and docking facilities. |
