Lutak lies just north of Haines, near Lutak Inlet and Chilkoot Lake, in the Haines Borough. The community
lies at approximately 59.382690° North Latitude
and -135.642910° West Longitude.

| History, Culture
and Demographics |
| The Tlingit Indian name Lutak was first published in 1923. Historically Chilkat Indian territory, Haines is now predominantly a non-Native community. There are two Chilkat Indian Villages in the area, the Chilkoot, in Haines, and the Chilkat, in Klukwan. Haines is home to the world's largest congregation of bald eagles, who feed from the hot spring-fed rivers. The Chilkat Bald Eagle Reserve, located 18 miles from Haines, is a major attraction in Southeast Alaska.
The population of the community consists of 10.3%

Lutak is best described as a development in the greater Haines area, rather than a clearly defined community.
During the 2000 U.S. Census,
total housing units numbered 39, and vacant housing units numbered 20.
