Halibut Cove is in the Kachemak Bay State Park on the Kenai Peninsula. It lies on the south shore of Kachemak Bay, 12 miles across the inlet from the Homer Spit. The community
lies at approximately 59.595000° North Latitude
and -151.225000° West Longitude.

Winter temperatures range from 14 to 27; summer temperatures vary from 45 to 65. Average annual precipitation is 24 inches. |

| History, Culture
and Demographics |
| The Cove was named by W.H. Dall of the U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey in 1880. Between 1911 and 1928, Halibut Cove had 42 herring salteries and a population of over 1,000, according to one resident. From 1928 to 1975, the population stayed around 40, mostly fishermen.
The population of the community consists of 2.9%
Alaska Native or part Native.
Halibut Cove residents include many artists. Paintings, prints, pottery and batiks are produced and sold locally. There is a local community association. The summer population grows to around 160.
During the 2000 U.S. Census,
total housing units numbered 123, and vacant housing units numbered 105.
Vacant housing units used
only seasonally numbered 104.

2000 showed 37 residents
as employed. The unemployment rate at that time was
0 percent,
although
38.33 percent of
all adults were not in the work force. The median household
income was $127,010, per capita income was $89,895, and

Utilities, Schools and Health Care |
| The majority of homes haul water from a central source or have water delivered; about 20% use individual water wells. Half of all residences have individual septic systems and are fully plumbed. Many homes in this area are used only seasonally.
Electricity is provided by Homer Electric Association.
There are no state operated schools located in the community.
Local hospitals or health clinics include South Peninsula Hospital in Homer (907-235-8101).
Halibut Cove is classified as an isolated village, it is found in EMS Region 2J in the Kenai Peninsula Region. Emergency Services have air and coastal access. Emergency service is provided by volunteers
Auxiliary health care is provided by ferry or flight to South Peninsula Hospital in Homer.

and Transportation |
Many residents are self-employed artists; others work in seasonal construction jobs. Eight residents hold commercial fishing permits.
There is no road access to Halibut Cove. Boats and float planes are the primary means of transportation. Kachemak Bay Ferry Service provides transportation from Homer. |
