Ferry lies on both shores of the Nenana River, 39 miles south of Nenana in the Denali Borough. It is located at mile 371.2 of the Alaska Railroad. The community
lies at approximately 64.037080° North Latitude
and -148.944500° West Longitude.

Interior Alaska experiences seasonal temperature extremes. January temperatures range from -22 to -2; July temperatures range from 50 to 72. Average annual precipitation is 11.3 inches. Ice fog is common during the winter. |

| The name was originally published as a railroad station in 1922. The railroad work camp at Ferry brought settlers.
The population of the community consists of 0%

During the 2000 U.S. Census,
total housing units numbered 33, and vacant housing units numbered 20.
Vacant housing units used
only seasonally numbered 12.
U.S. Census data for Year
2000 showed 9 residents
as employed. The unemployment rate at that time was
60.87 percent,
although
72.73 percent of
all adults were not in the work force. The median household
income was $38,750, per capita income was $18,323, and
16 percent of residents
were living below the poverty level.

Utilities, Schools and Health Care |
| About 75% of households haul water and use outhouses or leachfields. The remainder have individual water wells and septic tanks. 30% of homes are plumbed. Refuse is hauled to the new Borough regional landfill located just south of Anderson.
Electricity is provided by Individual Generators.
There are no state operated schools located in the community.
Local hospitals or health clinics include Healy Health Clinic (683-2211) in Healy.
Ferry is classified as an isolated village. It is found in EMS Region 1C in the Interior Region. Emergency Services have highway and air access

and Transportation |
Due to limited accessibility to Ferry, there is no employment directly in the community. Many residents work in the Healy area.
From the George Parks Highway, road access is available only on privately-owned railroad or University land. Most residents park their cars on a private lot and walk into Ferry, across a railroad bridge and catwalk. Students are taken by ATV across the River to the school bus. |
