Community Sanitation Overview:
The majority of residents (roughly 49 homes) have household plumbing and most use individual wells. Approximately twelve households do not have water or sewer service-some haul water from the community center and a few are served by a spring well catchment system. Septic tanks, leachate fields, and a public sewage lagoon are used for sewage disposal. The North Shore uses eleven shared effluent pumps (REP units) which discharge into a piped wastewater system. Nushagak Electric Cooperatives in Dillingham provides electricity to Aleknagik. 
RUBA Status & Activities This Qtr:
During the quarter RUBA traveled to Aleknagik with DCRA Planning staff to discuss planning interest and initiatives with the City of Aleknagik. According to the city administrator the city council plans to update its comprehensive community plan and capital improvement projects list. During the visit RUBA introduced himself to the new city clerk and offered assistance to the city administrator on the topic of deficient RUBA indicators. RUBA continues to offer assistance and recommendations as the city strives to maintain satisfactory RUBA Assessment of Management Indicators, a grant condition the city anticipates for water/sewer project funding. In prior quarters the city was satisfying RUBA essential indicators but several essential indicators are presently listed as deficient. RUBA continues requesting RUBA Assessment-related documentation from the city including monthly financial reports to confirm indicators are being met. The city continues working with the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) to assess water/sewer infrastructure improvement options. 
RUBA Activities for the Coming Qtr:
RUBA will continue to offer assistance to the city as they work to resolve deficient RUBA indicators. RUBA plans further travel to assist onsite in the upcoming quarter.

RUBA awaits confirmation of collections through review of a current financial report. Staff also uses QuickBooks for accounts payable and for payroll processing. Staff reconcile their bank accounts and utilize a purchasing system that requires approval prior to purchase.

On June 5, 2008 RUBA obtained confirmation from the Internal Revenue Service Taxpayer Advocate Service showing federal tax compliance for the two EIN numbers provided by the city. RUBA requested the city's permission to check the current status of federal tax, awaits a response, and will update this report upon confirmation. Concerning Alaska ESC tax compliance, on December 30, 2008 a state Department of Labor report indicates the city is meeting its ESC tax obligations through the quarter ending September 30, 2008.
