Community Sanitation Overview:
Water is pumped three miles from the Togoomenik River to the pumphouse, where it is treated and stored in a 848,000-gallon insulated tank adjacent to the washeteria. A piped water and sewage collection system services most homes. 75% of households have complete plumbing and kitchen facilities. The school is connected to City water, and has received funding to develop a sewage treatment system to serve the entire community. The City burns refuse in an incinerator. The landfill needs to be relocated; the current site is not permitted. 
RUBA Status & Activities This Qtr:
This quarter, Nome RUBA staff learned that FY 08 Community Energy Assistance funding has been used to pay outstanding Internal Revenue Service (IRS) liens from 2005 and 2006. This is the first step for the City to become eligible for Village Safe Water grant-funded projects. Rita Auliye, City Clerk, successfully completed a Payroll Tax Workshop in Nome on October 16-17, 2007 in Nome. Due to bad weather, a scheduled trip to Shaktoolik was cancelled on December 5, 2007. 
RUBA Activities for the Coming Qtr:
Provide ongoing technical assistance via email, fax, and phone. Nome RUBA staff will travel to Shaktoolik to conduct a managerial capacity assessment. A 32-hour Personnel Management workshop will be held in Nome from February 25-29, 2008. A Pumps and Puming training will be held in Nome from January 22-24, 2008

The City Clerk has been trained by RUBA staff to do quarterly tax reports, payroll deposits, and Employment Security Contribution (ESC) reports. However, small balances are still due for 1st quarter 2007 and a 941 for 2nd quarter 2007 needs to be resubmitted (no return posted and minimal amount paid). The City still owes State Department of Labor a considerable amount for Employment Security.
